Ticketmaster reached out to its millions of live event fans and asked them to select their hottest ticket of the past year in order to find which event would be awarded Ticket of the Year 2015.
Ed Sheeran’s one-man show at Perth’s nib Stadium was selected by Ticketmaster as the greatest event in 2015. It was one of just two music acts to make the top 5 with three incredible theatre productions filling the places from second to fourth.
Matilda the Musical was voted as the second best event in the Ticket of the Year 2015 poll. The delightful production, which is based on one of Roald Dahl’s best loved children’s books, has been a massive success in Australia since it debuted at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in August. The musical is set to hit the stage at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in March 2016, which may mean the production can go back-to-back in the Ticket of the Year poll.
In third place was Cameron Mackintosh’s much-loved production of Les Miserables, which was closely followed by The Lion King, proving the theatre landscape in Australia and very much alive and well.
Fifth place was reserved for another live music act. Legendary Australian rockers AC/DC impressed the crowds so much on their recent Rock or Bust world tour that they were voted into the top 5 of Ticket of the Year 2015.
It would seem AC/DC holds a very special place in the hearts of their fellow Australians with the nation proudly elevating the band to the lofty position.
Live entertainment is a hallmark of the Australian way of life. People love nothing more than to attend amazing live events from theatre to sport to comedy and concerts with loved ones. When Ticketmaster put out the call to find the Ticket of the Year 2015 winners, we were amazed at the positive response from people who attend the events.
And it seems the love for live events will not wane in 2016 with fans already overwhelmingly anticipating next year’s hottest events. Not surprisingly, Adele was selected as the one event Australians are most keen to see on local shores in 2016.

Ticketmaster polled its 85 million live entertainment fans across its database to discover who put on the greatest shows this year, as part of Ticketmaster’s Ticket of the Year 2015. This vote was all about giving a voice to the Ticketmaster fan and a chance to shout about what their favourite live event of 2015 was.
